Azerbaijanian American Cultural Alliance met with Hon.Kofi Annan. Secretary-General of the United Nations, 1997-2006 Nobel Peace Prize Recipient Hyatt Regency On Monday, April 12, Houston was the home to an important event. Invited by the Turkic community, Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations between 1997 and 2006, addressed to a distinguished audience at Hyatt Regency Downtown. The MC of the program was Melissa Wilson, news anchorwoman form Fox 26. Dr. Colby, the Dean of Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston, made the welcome . After Dr. Webb, Dr. Renu Khator, the President of University of Houston, took the stage and made a nice introductory speech about Mr. Annan. 250 people gave a standing ovation to Mr. Annan before he took the stage. Mr. Annan talked about his own initiative, Global Compact, and gave positive examples all around the world. Among the audience was there Texas State Representative Dr. Alma Allen; Dr. Lyn Ragsdale, Dean of Social Science Department at Rice University; Mississippi Senators Hilmann Frazier ve Hank Zuber; Fox 26 Vice President D’artagnan Bebel, Houston Port General Manager James Edmonds; Lasse Sei, Consul General of Norway; Chase Untermeyer, Former US Ambassador to the Qatar; Paul Lynch, Consul General of the UK; Stephen Daniel, Houston Police Department Representative and many other academicians, consul generals, businessmen and the representatives of non-governmental organizations. |

Students coming from Azerbaijan for project Olympiad shared their excitement of 4 bronze medals with Houston Azerbaijanis I-SWEEP 2010 brought together over 1,000 brightest science like-minded students and their supervisors in Houston.
Young scientists from 70 countries and 43 US satates displayed their 470 science projects about pressing issues of energy,engineering and environment. |
